The Summer School 'Political Conspiracy Theories' dedicated to the political uses of conspiracy is back. The second edition will take place in Pisa at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna from 1 to 5 July 2024, and is organised within the framework of the Jean Monnet GOLDSTEIN European project ('Debunking Political Uses of Denialisms and Conspiracy Theories in EU') coordinated by Marco Solinas, researcher at the DIRPOLIS Institute (Law, Politics, Development) of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa.

"The political use of conspiracy theories has become decisive again in recent years," says Solinas. "One of the recent cases is Trump's accusation that the US Democratic Party favours illegal immigration in order to illegally obtain new votes and thus alter the outcome of the next US elections. The Summer School offers analytical tools to understand and decode such schemes and arguments, highlighting their peculiar mechanisms of operation on different levels'.
Interdisciplinarity to analyse and debunk conspiracy theories
The Summer School provides an introductory overview, through lectures given by world-class experts, on strategies to analyse, decode and debunk some forms of political theories of denialism and conspiracy from an interdisciplinary perspective encompassing political theory, sociology, political philosophy, history and political science.
The Summer School is addressed to university students, PhD students, post-docs, journalists, politicians. The main objective is to provide analytical tools that allow first of all to interpret and decode the processes through which denialism and conspiracy theories are used in political terms to gain consensus.
Planned lectures
The programme includes lectures by Francesco Antonelli, associate professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Roma Tre; Eirikur Bergmann, professor of politics at Bifrost University (Iceland); Karen Douglas, professor of Social Psychology at the University of Kent; Serena Giusti, research affiliate at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna; by Uffa Jensen, historian at the Center for Research on Antisemitism, Technische Universität in Berlin; by Stella Levantesi, journalist and writer on climate change; by Giuseppe Martinico, professor at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna; and by Marco Solinas, researcher at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.
