Visitors in May 2018
In May 2018, Sant'Anna hosted several visitors whose research interests are closely related to EMbeDS. Below are a few brief profiles.
Martin Kenney is Distinguished Professor in Community and Regional Development at the University of California Davis. His interests include the dynamics of entrepreneurial high-technology regions, university-industry technology transfer, the development of the venture capital industry, and the impacts of new technologies on industrial structures and labor relations. Martin is a regular visitor of the Institute of Management at the Sant’Anna School. He spent three months at the School in the Spring of 2017, lecturing on the Digital Platform Economy in our graduate programs and participating to seminars and project proposals related to University-Industry technology transfer. He spent another month at the School in May 2018, lecturing on University engagement with industry and working on a special issue of the Journal of Technology Transfer co-edited with Rosa Grimaldi (UniBo), Andrea Piccaluga and Alberto Di Minin (SSSA).
Marcelo C. Pereira is Associate Professor of Microeconomics and Quantitative Methods at the University of Campinas, Brazil. He also acted as Senior VP for large domestic and international ICT companies for several years. Marcelo’s interests include the application of adaptive complex systems theory to Economics, the development of software and methodologies for agent-based modeling, and the interconnection between the labor market and Macroeconomics. He is a regular visitor of the Institute of Economics at the Sant’Anna School, where he interacts with faculty and graduate students. From 2013, Marcelo visited the School five times – pursuing research projects on micro-macro dynamics modeling and model validation with Giovanni Dosi, Andrea Roventini and several other researchers at SSSA. He also lectured to PhD students in seminars and workshops focused on the effective use of agent-based modeling in Macroeconomics applications.
James Rising is Assistant professor at the Grantham Institute of the London School of Economics. Prior to joining the Grantham Research Institute, he held postdoctoral positions at the Energy & Resources Group of UC Berkeley and the Energy Policy Institute of the University of Chicago. He received his Ph.D. in Sustainable Development from Columbia University. James is an interdisciplinary modeler, studying the feedback between environmental and human systems, the impacts of climate change, and the water-energy-food nexus. He draws upon analytical and empirical approaches from multiple fields and develops computational and statistical models to understand integrated global challenges. During his visit to the Institute of Economics of the Sant’Anna School, James gave a seminar concerning future projections of agricultural yields in the US under climate change and the modeling challenges of climate impact research. He also interacted with Francesco Lamperti and members of CoMoS who are active in the climate impact field.
